Do you believe in the man in the moon or that the moon is made of cheese? Come and take a closer look at the full moon from the Afrikaanse Taalmonument on Paarlberg, at the first Full-moon Picnic of the season on Saturday 24 October 2015.
Local as well as international visitors enjoy these picnics for the unbeaten sunset and night time views of the valley.
Moonrise will be at 15:49 and sunset at 19:07. There will be a guided tour of the monument at 18:30. The monument will be open until 22:00.
Visitors are welcome to bring their own picnic baskets or they can order one from Volksmond Coffee Shop (tel. 021 863 2800). Volksmond will be open for coffee and light refreshments. Visitors are reminded to bring along a torch and warm clothes. No dogs and fires are allowed. Safe parking is available and access is controlled.
Tickets are R25 for adults, R10 for SA students and R5 for children (free under six years), available from Computicket and at the gate. No booking is required. Annual permits are available at the Taalmonument at R120 for individuals or R220 per family, which includes access to Full-moon Picnics.
For more information about events at the Taalmonument, call 021 863 0543/4809 or visit www.taalmonument.co.za.
The picnic series is presented in aid of the Taalmuseum’s reading project for children, Let’s Read! Visitors are encouraged to bring along a new or secondhand children’s book in support of the project.
